Ward 4 - Former West Ward

Don Ferris

Don Ferris, a devoted father of four daughters, is deeply connected to the Maitland community. His passion for the outdoors, love for fishing, and appreciation of the Hunter Valley’s natural beauty drive his commitment to preserving the region’s unique biodiversity. As a vocal advocate for local Landcare initiatives, Don actively contributes to environmental conservation.

Professionally, Don works as a Civil Maintenance and Contracts Officer at Hunter Water. His role involves ensuring the efficient functioning of essential infrastructure. Additionally, Don spends Saturdays working at a Cellar Door in Pokolbin, where he engages with locals and visitors alike.

Don’s green thumb extends beyond his professional life—he is an avid gardener. He eagerly anticipates participating in the upcoming Garden Ramble and plans to enhance the landscaping of his new home in Lochinvar.

Having previously served one term as a Councillor, Don understands the critical role local government plays in shaping residents’ lives. During his tenure, he championed environmental improvements and advocated for livability enhancements. Don firmly believes that Maitland’s rapid growth must be guided thoughtfully to maintain and improve residents’ quality of life.

One of Councils most rewarding projects was the completion of the shared pathway to Gillieston Heights during his last term. The local community wholeheartedly embraced this project, highlighting the need for more such initiatives in Ward 4.

In summary, Don Ferris seeks to contribute his passion, experience, and dedication to ensuring Maitland remains a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community.

As a Labor Councilor, Don aims to guide growth while preserving the essence of what makes Maitland special.
